Summary

Augustus Ambrose never planned to return to the United States after graduation. His mother’s final letter, with its dire threats about what would await if he did, had been more than enough to keep him away. But when his Aunt Grace dies unexpectedly and leaves him her ranch in the New Mexico Territory, he can’t ignore it. Grace gave him everything, and he can’t let her legacy suffer for his childish fear of his mother.

Griffith Taylor doesn’t want much. Quiet nights on the range, a big blue sky, and no rattlesnakes in his boots. He definitely doesn’t want to travel to Boston to take care of his late boss’s heir. When he lays eyes on his charge, everything changes. Not just because Augie is the best looking greenhorn he’s ever clapped eyes on, oh no.

Someone wants Griff’s new boss dead, and they’re not afraid to use forbidden magic to get the job done. Griff can handle himself in a fight, but this job might be more than he’s prepared for.

Review

If you are looking for a light-hearted, quick read with a paranormal western edge then this is the perfect book (and series) to dive in to. Ruby Run is part of the Tin Star Witches: The Witches of Ruby Gulch series, each novel written by a different author.

Griff and Augie are complete opposites of each other. Griff is a Range Witch working at the Lost Chance ranch. Augie has just inherited the Lost Chance ranch from his aunt. The journey to Lost Chance bring a lot more trouble then a city boy not being able to cut it in the west.

These two character are so cute together. Augie is unsure of himself, he knows nothing about ranching but this is the first opportunity to find a home. He can’t pass that up. Griff likes Augie just as he is, caring, kind, and perfect for him in every way.

The chemistry between Griff and Augie is instantaneous and burns brightly. There are a few spicy scenes which were great. There were some flirty scenes that just had me grinning. Griff and Augie, I just love them. This was a great read.

The Summary:

A missing girl, ritual murders, and a shadow stalking every footstep.

Alexis Caine survived an attack in the deserts of Afghanistan. An attack the government denied and discharged him for, leaving him broken and in a mental institution. What Alex saw that day in the desert continues to haunts him.

When a new job working as a bodyguard for a New Orleans ghost tour guide, Micah Richards, opens Alex’s eyes to a world of paranormal possibilities, he’s not sure he can believe his eyes. What if he’s not crazy after all? When a ritual murder in which two fellow tour guides die and a tourist vanishes, Alex wonders if he brought a curse down upon them all.

A shadow from the desert rears its nightmarish head offering Alex something he wants more than anything, but at what cost?

The Review

I loved Stalked by Shadows! I’m picky when it comes to any book set in New Orleans, like notoriously picky (I’ll drop my rating dramatically because of it kind of picky), and this felt like Lissa has lived in New Orleans since her childhood.  I was in New Orleans (both literally and while reading the novel).

Alex isn’t doing all that well, returning from Afghanistan and a stint in a mental facility. Who would after all that he saw there? What he saw when his unit was destroyed, couldn’t have been real. It didn’t make sense. His twin brother, Lukas, took him in and found people that understood his trauma, didn’t judge him for his PTSD, and brought him back to life.

Micah was probably my absolute favorite part of this book. He felt like New Orleans, even if he wasn’t born there. He knew the history, understood that there was more to the world than most people are willing to acknowledge, and was entirely himself. There was an aspect of his character, I was expecting more development of, because it was such a big deal in the beginning, but honestly? It didn’t bother me.

The chemistry between Micah and Alex was intense. They saw past each other’s walls and supported each other. They flirted, teased each other, and found a partner in each other. When they were intimate with each other, it was like my breath caught in my chest. They connected, understood and trusted each other.

Now, there is the paranormal element, Hoodoo, Voodoo, the violence and the disappearances. Like I’m ready for more of the series because I need answers. There were times I felt Alex’s panic, the fear rising in his throat, and his desperation to make it through the situation. The detail was vivid and helped put me in his memories, in the in between (that’s what I’m going to call it) and around New Orleans.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and you should do yourself a favor and grab a copy now.

The Summary: When the spirit of a young male prostitute comes to psychic Tennyson Grimm asking him to find the john who brutally murdered him, Tennyson can’t say no. Only able to communicate through the use of images, rather than words, getting any information out of the young man is frustrating and slow going.

Cold Case Detective Ronan O’Mara has been on a roll solving cases since he and Tennyson last teamed up to solve the Michael Frye case. Unfortunately, the red-hot romance that had blossomed between them during that investigation is now off in a ditch, thanks to Ronan’s self-confessed pigheadedness.

Agreeing to work together despite the rift in their relationship, Tennyson and Ronan discover they are in for more than they bargained for when more victims start to reveal themselves to Tennyson.

Realizing they might have a serial killer on their hands, the two men work tirelessly to stop this madman from killing again, but when the killer targets the son of a prominent member of the Boston Police Department, can Ronan and Tennyson save him before it’s too late?

The Review

Detective Ronan O’Mara and psychic Tennyson Grimm are back and things aren’t all rainbows, kittens and butterflies for the couple. Since the conclusion of their last case they’ve spent their time apart and angry with each other. Tennyson gave Ronan the ultimatum, get help from a therapist or they’re done. It takes a case to bring the two back together and a level of understanding between the two of them.

There’s a serial killer out there torturing and murdering teenage boys who have taken to the street to survive. They’ve resorted to this life style because they came out and were not accepted by their families. As Ronan and Tennyson work their way through this case, they find each other and a family that they didn’t know they had in their friends.

All the men in this series are emotional, be it angry, happy, sad, loving. The entire range of emotions is explored over all the characters. One of the reasons this didn’t get a full five stars was how overly masculine Ronan is and how dramatic Tennyson can get. I get that it’s their personalities. That’s how it was in the first book. But it’s gotten more intense, if that makes any sense?

Then I figured out who the killer was really early on. I was still invested though.  I needed Ronan and Tennyson to be okay, to care for each other and be part of each other’s lives.  Then the Captain and Greeley? OMG, my heart broke into a million pieces and then slowly rebuilt. I love the Cap. He’s one of the secondary characters the jumps out at you and is like, ‘helloooo, I’m here and important’. He is important and wonderful and I want someone like him in my life.

I enjoyed this, even though I nitpick about little things (like the overuse of the word cock). Am I going to pick up the next one to read, review and feature on here? Yep. I just hope we get a little more flirty, seductive moments between Ronan and Tennyson. Perhaps a little more complexity?

The Summary:  When the gods come calling, you don’t get to say no.

Patrick Collins is three years into a career as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency when the gods come calling to collect a soul debt he owes them. An immortal has gone missing in New York City and bodies are showing up in the wake of demon-led ritual killings that Patrick recognizes all too easily from his nightmares.

Unable to walk away, Patrick finds himself once again facing off against mercenary magic users belonging to the Dominion Sect. Standing his ground alone has never been a winning option in Patrick’s experience, but it’s been years since he’s had a partner he could trust.

Looking for allies in all the wrong places, Patrick discovers the Dominion Sect’s next target is the same werewolf the Fates themselves have thrown into his path. Patrick has been inexplicably attracted to the man from their first meeting, but desire has no place in war. That doesn’t stop Patrick from wanting what he shouldn’t have. Jonothon de Vere is gorgeous, dangerous, and nothing but trouble—to the case, to the fight against every hell, and ultimately, to Patrick’s heart and soul.

In the end, all debts must be paid, and Patrick can only do what he does best—cheat death.

The Review

This is the first time I’ve read anything by Hailey Turner. Obviously, I have been missing out because I need more! Especially, in concern to Patrick and Jono. Jeez, those two fellas, I just fell in love with them.  I was enchanted with the entire world. There were Gods, mages, sorcerers, werewolves, werecreatures, seers, vampires, demons, and more.

Patrick is a red-headed, stressed out and annoyed mage who has been through hell and back. He gets sent to New York to help investigate a series of extremely violent crimes, where supernatural forces have been involved.

Jono is a werewolf from London, who bartends at a local supernatural bar. But there’s a bit more to him than everyone knows.  He is one hell of a guy. He’s very protective, strong and smart.

Both Patrick and Jono’s lives are influenced by the Gods. Patrick has a debt to pay and Jono, I have a feeling we’ll be learning more about how the Gods influence him in future books. They worked together, not just the police but the supernatural community to stop any catastrophic disaster from hitting New York City from Ethan Greene who will do whatever it takes to become a God.

I’ve been on a paranormal, procedural, romance kick. This book spoiled me rotten. Not only was there a case that needed to be solved but it all played into something much bigger than those cases.  The action of the scenes were vivid, fast paced, and had my heart pumping. I had to know what was going on with Patrick and Jono and the rest of the crew. I NEEDED TO KNOW.

The romance between Patrick and Jono wasn’t the main focus. There were a couple of intense scenes and you could feel the buzz of attraction throughout the novel.  I feel like I’m about to keyboard smash from how much I enjoyed these two men. They were both strong, honest, and willing to fight for each other. Like I said, I loved them and all the other characters.

So the question is, should you read this? OMG YES. I’m actually going to check out the other books Hailey Turner has penned. Because damn, this book was good.

The Dark Bloods by Destiny Hawkins

3.5 Stars out of 5 Stars

The Summary: Alveya Tera. A monster, a killer, and an abomination. It was hard for anyone to believe that she was anything more, but one wolf thought differently. That was… until she lost control of the hybrid within her and left the Dark Bloods clan covered in blood.

Months later, Alveya returned to the Tera Mansion no better than before, and to make matters worse, she brought a friend. In less than a week after her arrival, a mysterious group of strangers began hunting the one person that she was trying to keep away from. The one that fate wouldn’t let her resist…

Crystal Blue.

And it was damn hard to play keep away while protecting her.

Even through the rage, the loneliness, and the pain of struggling to recover from years of neglect and abuse, Alveya would continue do anything to keep Crystal safe.

Even if it cost her her life.

The Review

The Dark Bloods is the second book in the Blue Moon Series by Destiny Hawkins. First, this story is more about Crystal than Alveya, I just want to make that one hundred percent clear.  It’s 85% told from Crystal’s point of view. Which I really liked reading from Crystal’s POV a lot more than the few times I got to read from Alveya’s. *shrug* I just wasn’t Alveya’s greatest fan.

Onwards to the review!

Crystal Blue and her brother Alan are the last remaining wolves in existence. She’s been training to fully being able to call herself alpha and to protect herself from the impending danger from the Krystal Tooths and the newest threat to the Dark Bloods. Vampires. She had previously formed a bond with Alveya, who had ran away from the Dark Bloods and Crystal in fear of the ‘monster’ she was becoming. In the process, Crystal is trying to live her everyday life and improve herself physically and when it comes to shifting. When Alveya returns, she returns with another women and breaks Crystal’s heart just a bit.

It seems like everywhere Crystal  looks, there’s Alveya and Kristy. She’s having to deal with jealousy, angry and keeping her wolf in control. When you think things are going Crystal’s way for once, it’s like a knife to a chest. A group of vampires are out to kidnap Crystal and they’ll do whatever it takes to get her.

I was a bit lost as to where this was going at points but Crystal, Alan, Amber and Angela are what kept me reading and engaged. Alan was such a little brother and he had me laughing out loud at times. Then how Amber would do magicky things in solidarity had my inner evil genius grinning. I will vividly remember the book/classroom scene.

I wish we would have gotten the why the vampires were so focused on taking Crystal. Even if it would have been at the end. There is going to be a book three so maybe then? There were a few sex scenes but as another reviewer mentioned, they were extremely vanilla for two animalistic beings. It felt like they were love scenes in your typical romance novel. Not in a paranormal, action story.

These ladies were kickass and I really enjoyed this aspect of it. They had their faults, they had plans to improve and worked together. Will I read the next one? Most likely.

The Summary: Medium and clairvoyant Simon Kincaide owns a Myrtle Beach boardwalk shop where he runs ghost tours, holds séances, and offers private psychic readings, making a fresh start after his abilities cost him his lover and his job as a folklore professor. Jaded cop Vic D’Amato saw something supernatural he couldn’t explain during a shootout several years ago in Pittsburgh and relocated to Myrtle Beach to leave the past behind, still skeptical about the paranormal. But when the search for a serial killer hits a dead end, Vic battles his skepticism to ask Simon for help. As the body count rises, Simon’s involvement makes him a target, and a suspect. But Simon can’t say no, even if it costs him his life and heart.

The Review

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Simon Kincaide and the employees who work along boardwalk at Myrtle Beach. Some of them have have touches of psychic abilities and they are being targeted by a serial killer dubbed, The Slitter. By chance homicide cop, Vic D’Amato stops in Simon Kincaide’s shop to see if maybe a psychic might give them some type of lead to work off of.

As it turns out, Simon was about to give the cops something to work off of and throughout he continues to get information from ghosts of the victims and bursts of feelings from the killer himself.

The characters had me enthralled with this book. Once I started reading I didn’t want to put it down. I felt like I was on the boardwalk with how vivid the details were. Simon was extremely authentic. He had been through so much before moving to Myrtle Beach and once he landed he didn’t harden himself. He remained authentic, honest and compassionate. He doesn’t push critics to believe him. He just does what it true to himself. I loved that about Simon.

The attraction between the two is instantaneous and real. Even after what Vic went through previously, he still remains cautious and weary of what he can’t prove with evidence. If Vic wouldn’t have acted the way he did, if he would have just fallen into understanding and believing, I would have had a, huh? moment. But this was right.

Their relationship didn’t happen fast and I liked that. I like a bit of a slow burn romance between to characters trying to find their footing together, especially with a serial killer on the loose. I think with their pasts, having someone who understood the unusual and didn’t force the need for ‘normal’ really helped keep them together. There were parts I knew were hard for Vic. And I hurt for both him and Simon.

This was the first book I’ve ready by Morgan Brice. I plan to read Witchbane as soon as I get the chance and to look at all the books written under her other name, Gail Z. Martin.

Thorns and Fangs Book One

Summary: Nate is caught between two dangerously hot vampires who can compel people to do whatever they want and a ruthless necromancer who wants Nate for all the wrong reasons—and that’s only the start of his problems.

Escort Nate prides himself on two things: his ability to please his clients and his normality – living in the monster capital of the world, ordinary is rare. Hunter, a darkly charming vampire with more charisma than is good for him, decides Nate is just what he needs. Nate’s sympathetic nature and skill in the bedroom are put to the ultimate test. But Hunter wants Nate for someone else – his brother, Ben. Nate is immediately attracted by the control with which Ben holds his sensitive nature in force. Too afraid of becoming a monster to allow himself to feel, Ben struggles to resist Nate’s generosity of emotion. As Nate’s normal world crumbles around him, and he desperately searches for a way to save Ben, Nate is becoming the necromancer’s latest victim.

Nate is forced to let go of and embrace powers he doesn’t fully understand. In defiance of Ben’s vampire sire and hunted by Department Seven, Nate and Ben finally learn to trust and rely on each other.

The Review

When I started this, I did not expect the journey I’d be in for. I loved every second of it!

When you begin reading, you meet Nate. He’s an escort and living in a city full of all the creatures that go bump in the night. Hunter, hires Nate for his brother, Ben. It is everything that Nate is attracted to. He’s gorgeous, kind and he does his best to control every aspect of his vampiric nature because he doesn’t want to be the monster he thinks he is.

The first few chapters are full of some amazing sex scenes. Like, *fans self* I didn’t think it was going open up like that but whoa. As an aspiring writer I would love to be able to write sex scenes like St. Kevern does. That sounds really creepy now that I’m reading this back but it’s true. It was full of lust, need, want, and overwhelming reaction/response from the characters.

What I really loved was the entire storyline. It wasn’t just about sex. It was about Ben and Nate fighting through everything that life through at them. And a wild Necromancer who sets his sight on the Saltaire sire and his sons using Nate to get to them, well, that was a lot to handle.

This story becomes a full on paranormal thriller and you can’t put the book down. It seems like in every chapter there’s a new twist and it keeps you on your toes. I loved the fact that all the twists happened. Nate, finds out more about himself as the story progresses and you’re just like, “GIVE ME ANSWERS NOW!”.  You know that feeling you really get into book and you have to know what happens? Yeah, this is what happened as I read Thorns and Fangs.

I love that their story isn’t ending here. Ben and Nate are set to move back to Nate’s home with his brother. I’m already wishing I had that book in my hands. I want to see how Ben and Nate’s relationship progresses. I want to know more about Nate and his family!

Go read this now!! Seriously, I just want everyone to read it so I can talk to someone about Ben and Nate.
